What's New

I converted this desktop site to a Zend Framework MVC application and launched my jQuery Mobile web site. Future plans are to convert the mobile site back end to Zend and produce an Android app version of the site using Appcelerator Titanium, with a Zend back end.

The Cloud!

  • Most of the images and documents on this site reside in the Amazon S3 cloud.
  • All MySQL databases are backed up to Amazon S3.
  • The secure area of the site includes an application for administering Amazon S3 buckets and objects using the Zend Simple Cloud API.

Installed ProjectPier, an open-source PHP application for managing projects, tasks and teams.

I passed the exams for the MCTS and MCITP certifications for SQL Server 2008 in June 2011.

Other recent changes/additions to the site include:

  • Conversion to HTML5
  • Animations and graphics making use of Raphael, HTML5 Canvas, Google Maps and Google Chart Tools. Use of Modernizr to hide Canvas and SVG graphics when they're incompatible with the browser. Try Chrome, Firefox or Opera for your best browsing experience.

What I'm Studying Now

I'm a big fan of online training (Lynda.com) and the O"Reilly books. Here's what I'm working on now:

  • PHP / Zend Framework
  • Mobile Web Development
  • Cloud Computing
  • HTML5
  • jQuery Mobile
  • HTML5 Canvas, Raphael and Google Chart Tools API
  • SQL Server 2008
  • Photography / Adobe Photoshop CS4

What I Used to Construct This Site

This site uses Zend Framework, PHP, MySQL and Smarty templates to generate HTML5. The front end makes extensive use of jQuery, jQuery UI, jQuery plugins, and AJAX/JSON. Graphics are generated using Google API's, HTML5 Canvas and Raphael.

Images and documents for this site reside in the Amazon S3 cloud. MySQL databases are backed up to Amazon S3, too.

I do my development in Aptana Studio 3 on a Linux laptop, running Ubuntu Linux (10.04 LTS desktop edition).
